Fillers can contain synthetic, biocompatible, and natural ingredients, depending on the brand and chemical makeup, and are categorized by type based on the specific needs of the patient. However, all dermal fillers can leave us with a refreshed, youthful appearance with relatively minimal risks and side effects. JUVÉDERM®

JUVÉDERM® provides a line of fillers made with Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. This Acid hydrates and lubricates tissues and structures, improving areas such as acne scars, frown lines, deep smile lines, and cheek depressions. Hyaluronic Acid can be found in the soft connective tissues surrounding the eyes, joints, and areas of cartilage. When extracted, it is reformulated and then injected into the affected areas to reduce lines and increase volume. Hyaluronic Acid is often injected into the joints to help people with arthritis ease pain and provide cushioning. Because of its success, Hyaluronic Acid fillers are one of the most common types of dermal filler used due to their long-lasting effects.

Restylane®

Restylane is a similar brand to JUVÉDERM, as it is an injectable dermal filler made with Hyaluronic Acid to restore facial volume and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. However, Restylane is administered with a different consistency than with JUVÉDERM, as it is particulate and granular rather than smooth and gel-like. Because of its granularity, it’s often used to build up the volume in the face through gradual buildups than with JUVÉDERM. Therefore, Restylane injections are highly effective in treating mild to moderate lines and wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, jawline, chin, and lips, especially areas affected by age.

Radiesse®

While both JUVÉDERM and Restylane are made with hyaluronic acids, Radiesse® is a filler made of Calcium Hydroxyapatite. Calcium Hydroxyapatite is a mineral found in human bones and is a mineral-like compound. This compound is biosynthetically produced and can be used for those with moderate to severe creases, poor fullness, and for those who are HIV-Positive. When diluted with saline, it is also used to induce collagen production in the skin when injected into areas such as cheeks, frown lines, and nasolabial folds. This dermal filler has a long safety record in both reconstructive surgery and dentistry and is known to produce a very natural result.

Each treatment has a projected outlook of several months to several years depending on the filler used, and the patient injected.
